Addison, Texas – The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) is pleased to announce the release of the revised Code of Ethics for the Profession of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The revised Code of Ethics provides a comprehensive framework that addresses ethical issues within clinical, business, educational, and research settings. It emphasizes three core principles:
- Patient Well-being: Sonographers are encouraged to respect patient autonomy, ensure safety, and maintain confidentiality while providing equitable care.
- Competent Practice: Sonographers must obtain and maintain proper education, certification, and credentials, uphold technical protocols, and commit to lifelong learning to ensure the highest level of competency.
- Professional Integrity and Public Trust: The Code promotes truthful communication, respect, avoidance of conflicts of interest, and adherence to legal and ethical standards in all professional activities
