Now Available: Revised Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

The SDMS is pleased to announce that the revised Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is now available.

This comprehensive document, last revised in June 2015, sets forth the most current standards and expectations for sonographers, emphasizing patient care, safety, and the evolving role of sonographers in healthcare.

The revision process was initiated in October 2022, marking a collaborative effort among 20 participating organizations to address the rapid technological advancements and changes in healthcare practices affecting the sonography profession. This document reflects a consensus on the essential roles and responsibilities of diagnostic medical sonographers, underlining their critical position within the healthcare team.
