2016 SDMS Fellows Inducted at the 2016 SDMS Annual Conference

The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) is proud to announce the induction of Richard Palma, BS, ACS, RDCS, RCS, FASE, FSDMS and Ted Whitten, BA, RDMS, RVT, FSDMS as SDMS Fellows. 

The SDMS Fellow membership category recognizes individual members who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of sonography and the SDMS. The newly inducted Fellows were honored September 30, 2016 at the SDMS and SDMS Foundation Awards Dinner during the 2016 SDMS Annual Conference. 

Richard Palma is currently the program director and clinical coordinator at the Hoffman Heart Institute, School of Cardiovascular Technology and the School of Cardiac Ultrasound in Hartford, Connecticut. He is also an Associate Clinical professor of medicine at the University of Connecticut. Richard has worked in the profession since 1990 and was the first in the country to become a fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography. He recently also became one of first in the country to earn the credential of Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS). In 2011, he received the Distinguished Educator award from the SDMS. Richard is well published as co-author of numerous papers and cardiac materials and he lectures extensively national and internationally on the subject of adult echocardiography.

Ted Whitten is currently an Ultrasound Practitioner at Elliott Hospital in Manchester New Hampshire. He also serves on the NHTI Advisory Board. Ted has a BA in Biology Pre-Med and holds the RDMS and RVT credentials. He started his career as a staff sonographer at Lawrence General Hospital in 1989. Ted’s passion for sonography and his ability to explain information make him a sought after speaker. He is also a published author. Ted’s other accomplishments include receiving the Senator Gordon Humphrey Award in 1990, service on the SDMS Board of Directors, SDMS Advanced Practice and Ethics Committees, SDMS Sonographer Task Analysis Project, and various ARDMS writing projects. Ted is the original Vice President of the Granite State Society of Medical Sonographers as well as a Past President. Most recently, Ted was officially appointed the sonographer representative to the New Hampshire Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy.
