Amy Wilson, MS, RT(R), RDMS, RVT
SDMS & SDMS Foundation Secretary
Amy Wilson, MS, RT(R), RDMS, RVT, secretary of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) and SDMS Foundation, is Chair and Clinical Professor of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at the University of Southern Indiana (USI) in Evansville, Indiana. Amy has taught at USI for 19 years. Amy has 30 years of sonography experience, and she holds a Master of Science in Education degree from the USI. Amy also holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology degree and an Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. Amy continues her professional practice as a vascular sonographer at Evansville Surgical Associates, Inc.
Why did you choose sonography as a career?
While I was in school for radiologic technology, I spent a day observing in the sonography department. I immediately fell in love with the profession. While working third shift on the weekends as a radiologic technologist at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in medical imaging technology with a major in sonography and a minor in magnetic resonance imaging.
What words of wisdom or inspiration do you have to share with others?
Don’t ever stop learning. I continue my clinical practice in addition to my full-time job as an educator. I enjoy working with students at clinical sites and I learn something new every day.
Best icebreaker?
Ask me about my dog. I love animals! I have a one-year-old Bernedoodle who rules the roost at my house. I love taking her for long walks, pup cups, and play dates.
Work is done, what are you doing?
You can usually find me on the water or in the water. I grew up on an 18-acre water ski lake in Posey County, Indiana. I skied competitively in my younger years and was a member of the Indiana University Water Ski team. Now, you can usually find me in a boat instead of behind one! I have three sons – a 23 year-old and 19 year-old twins. We love to go boating every moment we can.
Inspiration?
I am inspired by my coworkers. They are a diverse group of amazing health care professionals who strongly believe in interprofessional collaboration and education.
