The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) is a professional membership organization founded in 1970 to promote, advance, and educate its members and the medical community in the science of diagnostic medical sonography. The SDMS, with over 28,000 members, is the largest association of sonographers and sonography students in the world.
On behalf of the SDMS Board of Directors, we extend our sincere thanks to you, your colleagues, family, friends, and others in the many allied health professions who responded to our Calls to Action to oppose AB 387. The California State Assembly failed to approve AB 387 during the final two-day push to pass bills that would be sent to the Senate for consideration.
In fact, AB 387 was not even discussed during the 23+ hours of debate on 300+ bills and was eventually moved to the “inactive file.” We are hopeful that the concerns raised by the wide spectrum of allied health professionals, who would be negatively impacted by the bill and who contacted their Assembly Member, will send a clear message to the bill’s sponsor, Assembly Member Tony Thurmond (D – District #13), that the bill was a bad idea from beginning to end.
Rest assured, the SDMS will continue to monitor any future attempts by Assembly Member Thurmond to introduce other bills that adversely impact sonographers and we will seek your assistance again, if necessary.
Again, thank you for all your assistance in stopping this bill.
