The ARDMS requires that you complete thirty CME credits every three year fixed period. See complete information on the ARDMS website at www.ardms.org. SDMS suggests you complete a minimum of ten CME credits per year to ensure compliance with ARDMS requirements.
CCI requires that you complete thirty-six CME (CEU) credits each triennial cycle. At least thirty of these thirty-six credits must be related to cardiovascular technology. See complete information on the CCI website at www.cci-online.org. SDMS suggests you complete a minimum of twelve CME credits per year to ensure compliance with CCI requirements.
Annual Conference registration normally occurs from May to October, and SDMS members receive significant discounts on Annual Conference registration. If you are not an SDMS member, you may be eligible to join and register online at the same time to receive the discount. There are four easy ways to contact the SDMS:
The SDMS prides itself on having the friendliest, most efficient staff in the industry. If you have a general question, please contact us at 800.229.9506.
SDMS CBI membership is available to commercial firms or businesses involved in the manufacture and sale of ultrasound equipment and/or accessories, pharmaceuticals, or formal publications related to sonography or an institution involved in education and training related to sonography.
SDMS CBI membership links you to the largest sonography organization in the world currently representing more than 28,000 sonographers and all sonography specialty areas. Your membership gives you access to information, professional education, government affairs advocacy, and access to your target audience in the sonography community.
While the SDMS does not specifically offer a group membership option through the website, bulk discounting is available to organizations that wish to pay for large groups of members at the same time. During the first year, group members will be pro-rated as necessary to align renewal dates, and the institution will then be able to add/remove members on an annual basis prior to the group's billing cycle.
To request a group invoice, please Click Here to fill out the group request form.
All group members receive full SDMS member benefits, including individual mailed copies of the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and access to online webinars and CME credit opportunities.
CBI membership provides benefits geared directly for businesses and institutions including:
While CBI membership offers many valuable benefits, it is not an umbrella membership for multiple sonographers. Organizations in the CBI membership category designate a “contact person” who will receive access to all SDMS individual member benefits.
Student dues are only valid while the student is enrolled in a diagnostic medical sonography or cardiovascular technology program.
The SDMS Bylaws define a student as "an individual who is currently enrolled in a diagnostic medical sonography program." This includes any student currently enrolled in a cardiovascular sonography program as well. Membership in this category is contingent upon written verification from the student's program director of current enrollment in the program and projected graduation date.
Based on feedback we have received from our student members, the top three benefits are listed below. However, SDMS student members have access to all SDMS benefits other than the right to vote or hold office.
To join the SDMS as a student member, complete a student membership application and send it, along with the Student Status Verification, to SDMS Headquarters. The Student Status Verification is provided as page two of the student membership application.
Student status verification may be supplied by your program director or clinical coordinator. The Student Status Verification section on page two of the student application must be completed and submitted with the application.
SDMS Student members will be assessed an interim rate of $80 USD for their membership year at their next renewal date immediately following their graduation. The following year, non-student individual membership dues amounts will be assessed.
Yes, in fact, members have online access to back issues beginning in 1985.
Each issue of the JDMS will contain at least one CME credit activity, which if successfully completed, will award you with continuing medical education credit. These articles and post-tests are available on the SDMS website for members. Completion of the online post-tests is free for members only and unavailable for non-members. Note: You will be given only one opportunity to pass these tests with a minimum passing score of 70%.
SDMS members currently have access to over 220 CME credits through the JDMS, SDMS Webinar Series and other opportunities online. Credit can only be earned for an activity once.
Important Reminder! All SDMS CME credits awarded to SDMS members will automatically be tracked through the SDMS CME Tracker.
JDMS manuscript submissions may only be submitted online through SAGE Track. For complete instructions, please click here.
Yes, if your article is accepted for publication in the JDMS, you may earn up to ten CME credits.
The SDMS CME Tracker tracks all SDMS-approved CME credits you complete through the JDMS, SDMS Webinar Series, SDMS website, SDMS products, the SDMS Annual Conference, and other SDMS CME providers. Completed credits are transferred to the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) daily, Monday through Friday. You will need to provide the ARDMS with certificates from non-SDMS CME activities you have completed.
NOTE: Currently, Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) do not participate in the SDMS CME Tracker program.
Once your membership account is setup, you do not need your member number to login. Instead, use your username (email address) and password. The SDMS website may assign new applicants a temporary member number upon application. All applications are reviewed and processed by Membership Department staff. If during our processing, we discover you were a previous SDMS member, you will be permanently assigned the old number. This is why the member number provided online is labeled as ‘temporary’. It may or may not change. Temporary, unused member numbers are deleted from our system daily.
No, not at this time. Retired or inactive healthcare professionals would join under the same membership categories as other members and receive the same member benefits.
You could be sent up to two dues renewal invoices by mail, depending upon when your payment is received by the SDMS. The first invoice is mailed approximately thirty days prior to your membership expiration date, however you may print a copy of your invoice at any time from My Profile. You may also receive up to four email reminders of your membership renewal. It is important to note that the SDMS must receive your renewal at least five to seven days prior to your expiration date to insure there is no interruption in your membership benefits.
Yes, however, there is currently no discount for making multiple-year membership dues payments. (Because of the special SDMS student membership dues rate, students should contact the SDMS for further details before making a payment.)
