The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) is a professional membership organization founded in 1970 to promote, advance, and educate its members and the medical community in the science of diagnostic medical sonography. The SDMS, with over 27,000 members, is the largest association of sonographers and sonography students in the world.
The SDMS Foundation's Sonography Clinical Instructor Program (SCIP) provides video presentations encompassing various topics related to sonography clinical instructors. In support of the sonography clinical instructor community, these educational videos are free to view. SDMS CME credit is available to members.
SCIP Assessing Competency
This course will explore different strategies to employ for clinical evaluation of student performance. Several approaches, frameworks, models and examples of clinical grading will be presented.
SCIP How to Provide Effective Feedback to Improve Clinical Skills
The course will aid instructors in the process of providing effective feedback to students in the clinical setting. Instructors will understand the difference between feedback and evaluation, identify barriers to providing feedback and develop techniques for providing effective feedback.
SCIP Remediation: What does it mean and how to do it effectively
This course will explore approaches, strategies and tips for successful implementation of clinical remediation.
SCIP Creating Educational Moments in a Busy Department
This course is designed to provide the audience with information on how the increased use of ultrasound in medicine will impact the profession. The need for sonographers is expected to increase considerably in the next 5-10 years, but providing a quality clinical education may become more difficult as ultrasound department volumes rise. The lecture will focus on the importance of serving as a clinical education site and how to create educational opportunities in the busy clinical setting.
SCIP Learning Style-Directed Clinical Education
This course will explore the ways people prefer to learn. Several approaches, frameworks, models and typologies of learning styles will be presented. The question of whether or not instructors should tailor their material and delivery methods will be discussed.
