SDMS Advertising Policies
General Advertising Policy
The policies are applied by the SDMS to ensure adherence to high ethical standards of advertising and to define the eligibility of products, programs, and/or services for advertisement in SDMS publications, on its website, or via direct marketing.
- SDMS retains the right to decline any advertising of products, programs, and services, in any form or to discontinue posting of any advertisement previously accepted that it deems in conflict with the Society's mission and/or policies. The SDMS may advertise jointly sponsored activities.
- With the exception of vascular technologist, the use of the words "tech," "technologist" and "technician" are prohibited when referring to a registered sonographer.
- Advertising related to the practice of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Echocardiography and Vascular Technology will be accepted. Comparisons and comparatives are prohibited.
- In addition to the above, products and services offered by responsible advertisers that are of interest to sonographers, echocardiographers and vascular technologists are also eligible for advertising.
- Equipment, Instruments, and Devices: The SDMS determines the eligibility of advertising for products intended for diagnostic purposes. Complete scientific and technical data concerning the product's safety, operation, and usefulness may be required. These data may be either published or unpublished. Samples of equipment, devices, or instruments should not be submitted. The SDMS reserves the right to decline advertising for any product that is involved in litigation with respect to claims made in the marketing of the product.
- Advertisements should not be deceptive or misleading. Exaggerated or extravagantly worded copy will not be allowed. Unfair comparison or unwarranted disparagement of a competitors product, program, or service will not be accepted.
- Advertisement in no way constitutes SDMS approval or endorsement (implicit or explicit) of products, programs, or services provided by the advertiser.
- SDMS does not review products or services prior to accepting an advertisement;
Print Advertising
Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS)
The Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS) accepts display and classified advertising. In addition to the General Advertising Policy, the following apply to JDMS advertising:
- The SDMS, at its sole discretion, retains the right to decline any submitted advertisement or to discontinue posting of any advertisement previously accepted that it deems in conflict with the Society's mission and/or policies.
- The SDMS reserves the right to instruct the Publisher (Sage Publications) to put the word "advertisement" on advertising which, in SDMS' opinion, resembles or may be confused with editorial pages.
- With the exception of vascular technologist, the use of the words "tech," "technologist" and "technician" are prohibited when referring to a registered sonographer.
- SDMS, through its Publisher, guarantees uniform rates and discounts to all advertisers. No exceptions to published rates.
- Neither SDMS or its Publisher are responsible for errors in material provided by the advertiser.
- Advertising related to the practice of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Echocardiography and Vascular Technology will be accepted. Comparisons and comparatives are prohibited.
- In addition to the above, products and services offered by responsible advertisers that are of interest to sonographers, echocardiographers and vascular technologists are also eligible for advertising.

- SDMS does not review products or services prior to accepting an advertisement; acceptance of an advertisement in no way verifies that claims made are accurate.
Digital Advertising

The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) offers a variety of advertising opportunities on its Internet website. The SDMS reserves the right to prior review and approval of advertisements (and destination hyperlinks). The SDMS reserves the right to determine final placement of the advertisement and may limit advertising in specific areas of the web site. The display of an advertisement on our web site in no way constitutes SDMS approval or endorsement (implicit or explicit) of products, programs, or services provided by the advertiser. Neither the name of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, SDMS Educational Foundation or the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS) nor their respective logos may be used in advertising or publicity without specific, prior written permission.
SDMS Sound News
The SDMS Sound News does not accept advertising, but exclusive sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information on SDMS Sound News sponsorship, contact SDMS at (214) 473-8057.
Direct Marketing
Direct marketing to SDMS members is available through rental of the SDMS mailing list. Direct marketing to SDMS members via email, fax, or telephone is strictly prohibited. The SDMS does not release this information. Collecting such information from the SDMS web site is strictly prohibited. Mailing Lists
The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) membership mailing list is available to promote sonography-related products or services. In addition to the General Advertising Policy, the following apply to mailing lists:
- The names and addresses provided by SDMS are the property of SDMS and are supplied for a single mailing and for no other purpose.
- Additional use requires submission of an additional request (and fee) to SDMS. This list may not be reproduced or stored in any manner, either in part or whole.
- The user is prohibited from producing individualized repetitious letters.
- The list may be used ONLY for mailing purposes. It cannot be used for telemarketing or telephone campaigns of any kind. Lists are seeded to detect unauthorized duplication or use.
- Failure to adhere to the conditions established by SDMS for use of this list may result in legal action. Such misuse will render the user liable for all damages to the SDMS that may arise from litigation, attorney fees, court costs and expenses incurred because of misuse.
- The use of the SDMS mailing list in no way constitutes SDMS approval or endorsement (implicit or explicit) or products, programs, or services distributed through this mailing.
- Each list rental is a separate contract between SDMS and the user and shall imply no obligation of SDMS to enter into future contracts for the use of this list.
